Best beaches on Lombok
Lombok is blessed with some of the best beaches in the world.  As Lombok and the surrounding islands are perched atop volcanic protrusions, where coral has grown on the top, most of the beaches here are white coral sand, which is very white (although we do have a beach that is pink in colour where red coral and white coral pieces combine to give a distinct pink colour). The white sand, combined with the beautiful clear turquoise coloured water that you only find around the tropical areas of the world means you have the perfect setting for a beach paradise. With coral reefs just off the beach, this provides a perfect location for snorkelling without the use of a boat to gain access. Lombok is famous for its marine life, which includes marine turtles, the famous Manta Ray, and an endless variety of brightly coloured fish which abound on most of the coral reefs. Sekatong Region of Lombok - Gili Nanggu, Gili Tangkong and Gili Sudak Islands Located on the south-western corner of Lombok, and just 1km off the coast, lie 3 small islands.  Though they are close to the mainland, there is little tourism activity in this area, which is mostly dominated by small fishing villages which dot the coast of Lombok. The outside world has yet to reach this region of Lombok, except for a few quite small isolated resorts, and as such there are few tourists to be found here. Offering stunning secluded beaches, these islands are a wonderland for those who wish to either simply lay on the beach, go swimming, or simply relax, but the best secrets lie just below the surface of the warm tropical waters… the coral reefs!  With an endless number of small coral reefs just offshore (which means that you can walk off the warm sand right into a snorkellers paradise), this region of Lombok definitely offers some of the best beaches to be found anywhere. Kuta Lombok Beach Located on the south coast of Lombok are a series of protected bays which offer pure white coral sand, and great swimming. The protected waters are ideal for families with children of all ages, and the beaches do not have any undercurrents which can make swimming in some locations unsafe. Kuta Lombok is famous with the surfing world, though the waves are not to be found at Kuta itself, they are further around the headlands where the waves can be quite large, almost all year round. So if you are looking for a quiet beach, Kuta is a great choice. Tanjun Aan Beach 2km  of beach paradise!  Tanjung Aan Beach is famous for both surfers and also those wishing to simply relax or take a swim.  At lower tides, the waves are small and gentle, but as the beach faced directly onto the Indian Ocean, at high tide, the waves do begin to build, and so do the number of surfers who come from around the world to ride the great waves. The sand is more golden and brown than many other beaches on Lombok, and this beach is definitely worth a visit no matter what the tides are! Pink Beach Pink Beach is located right at the south-eastern corner of Lombok in a small bay, which is quite protected.  The sand is a combination of red and white coral pieces, which when mixed together gives the beach a definite pink colour, best appreciated when the sun is directly overhead. With great snorkelling right off the beach, Pink Beach is a great choice. Getting to Pink Beach has its difficulties though… the roads in the area are “less than perfect” so the best way to approach the beach is from the sea by local boat. Senggigi Beach Senggigi is the main tourist area of Lombok, located on the western coast. The endless grey beaches are made up of a combination of white coral and the dark volcanic sands which are produced by the famous Mount Rinjani volcano which lies to the north. The beaches are quite steep, so you can step into deep water very quickly (do keep an eye on small children). At time when there have been large swells generated offshore, the surf can pound quite hard onto the beaches here, but these waves are not wasted.  Just to the north of Senggigi Beach lies Senggigi Point… a very popular surf break for surfers of all standards. A great beach, usually right at the very doorstep of the main resorts! Selong Belanak Beach Selong Belanak Beach is locatdd to the south of Lombok (south coast) and is a stunning white sand beach.  Bounded by large rocky outcrops, this is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches on Lombok.  The beach slopes very gently into the water, making this beach ideal for families with small children, and there is great snorkelling to be had at the northern end of the beach, which is well away from the local fishing village which is tucked into the southern end of the beach (this location offers protection for the outrigger fishing boats which lie on the beach during the day as the fishermen mostly fish at night) One of the best beaches on Lombok! Gili Islands Beaches All of the Gili Islands (Gili Trawanagan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) have great beaches. As these are coral atoll islands, there are some pieces of broken coral on the beaches, so care should be taken to avoid cuts to the feet.  With a little practice, it is easy to avoid any cuts though. All of the islands offer protected beaches with almost non-existent waves… often none at all.  If there are waves, you can simply walk around to the other side of the island and be completely protected! Great snorkelling is available just offshore, so we certainly recommend a visit to the Gili islands if you are looking for great beaches!
